The 49 & 576 Sqns Memorial.

In addition to the difficult and arduous tasks the groundcrews were expected to perform, their duties were not without its dangers either.

The following information and images were supplied by Mrs. Ann Heydon whose late Father, Fred Cooper aged 32, was a member of 49Sqn groundcrew. Fred was seriously injured removing the wheel chocks from a departing Lancaster and as a result of his injuries, was invalidid out of service. He made a good recovery and enjoyed a full and happy life.

The images and sketches are believed to have been taken at Scampton and the accident is believed to have happened at Fiskerton in 1943. No other details are available.

Many thanks to Ann for supplying the contents of this page
