With hostilities over in Europe, F/Sgt. Tamkin was transferred to the Middle East Command as engineering ground crew in preparation for operations in the Far East with Tiger force. An operation which never occurred as hostilities with Japan ended. |

Lancaster UL/G. for George. Pilot Flt/Lt. Frank Collins RCAF DFC and Flight Engineer Flt/Sgt Ken Tamkin RAF are at the controls of UL/G. With the rest of the crew closed-up at their crew stations, G for George is made ready for take off. This photograph was taken on 22nd of March 1945 prior to departing Fiskerton at 11.20 to attack Hildesheim-arriving safely back at Fiskerton at 16.25. Flt/Lt. Collins and crew flew 18 of their 30 operations in this Lancaster. Like the crew, this Lancaster survived the war. She was a type B1, serial number SW276, fitted with Merlin 24 engines. Made by Metropolitan-Vickers and assembled by A.V. Roe. Her service life lasted from January 1945 until June 1945. She was scrapped off in 1947.
