The 49 & 576 Sqns Memorial.


The following information and  images were supplied by David Briggs whose Uncle, Les Brown was a 576 Squadron Wireless Operator based at Fiskerton from December 1944 until May 1945. Les, a Yorkshireman from S. Kirkby, began flying as a Flt/Sgt and finished as a Flt/lt. They crewed up on August 6th 1944, began ops on December 29th 1944 flying their last op on 2nd May 1945. Surviving a total of 32 missions, including some of the most important raids undertaken from Fiskerton, 29 were over germany and 3 over Holland.

Les Brown (Wireless Op,) Bill(Pilot,) Earl(Mid-Upper Gunner,) and Ken (Navigator.)

P/O Holmes and crew photo beside lancaster NG273. Y-Yoke. Like the crew, this Lanc also survived and was scrapped off in June 1947.
